The above black and white portrait photo is of Jules Verne and was shot by Félix Nadar, the pseudonym of Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, a notable French photographer and caricaturist.
As was common in the late nineteenth century, Verne is seen wearing a dark suit and light shirt. His hair is untidy and he has full facial hair.
Jules Verne was a famous French science fiction writer most well known for his novels Journey To The Center Of The Earth, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, and Around the World in Eighty Days.
Born in 1828, Jules Verne pioneered modern concepts like space, air and underwater travel, glass skyscrapers, high-speed trains, gas-powered automobiles, calculators, and a worldwide communications network long before they came into reality. Verne, along with Hugo Gernsback and H.G. Wells, is often referred to as a “Father of Science Fiction”.
Many of Verne’s novels have been made into films, television mini-series and cartoons and he is one of the most translated authors ever.
